Another year of Legal 500 success for Tees

Tees is pleased to announce another excellent set of results in the Legal 500 directory.

Tees, which merged with Brentwood-based law firm Wortley Byers in January 2019, was recommended in 23 practice areas, and enjoyed recommendations for 43 solicitors within the Legal 500 United Kingdom 2020. In addition, seven of its solicitors were named as Leading Individuals, two as Next Generation Lawyers, while 14 were listed as Rising Stars. The excellent results highlight both individual lawyers and departments across the firm. For nearly 30 years, the Legal 500 has analysed the capabilities of law firms across the globe in over 100 areas, spotlighting lawyers and firms who provide “the most cutting-edge and innovative advice” to their clients.

Testament to the merger between the strong teams in Brentwood and Chelmsford, Tees’ Commercial Property team in Essex received a Tier 1 ranking, the highest possible rating within the directory. Partner and Commercial Property Head Mark Carter was described as “on top of his game” and noted for his vast expertise in residential property law.

Meanwhile, the firm’s Medical Negligence team, based in Cambridge, retained their Tier 1 status. With just three firms across East Anglia rated Tier 1 for claimant medical negligence work, this stand-out rating cements Tees’ preeminence in this highly specialised area of the law. Both Janine Collier, Partner and Co-Head of the Cambridge office, as well as “master tactician” Tim Deeming, were listed as Leading Individuals. Janine and Tim have both specialised in medical negligence for many years, recovering £millions in compensation for victims of medical accidents.

Other Leading Individuals included Robert Whitaker, Partner and Head of Tees’ Employment Law practice, who was praised by clients for his “unfailing diligence, unflagging enthusiasm and precise judgement”.  Catherine Mowat, a Partner within Tees’ large Private Client team, was also recognised as a leading light in her field: “clear, accurate, and efficient but not at the expense of warmth”. Louise Margiotta, a Partner in the Family Law team was described by clients as having “great judgement and [being] hugely supportive to her clients”.

With two Next Generation and 14 Rising Star lawyers listed, Tees’ commitment to developing – and rewarding – talent from within continues to shine through.

Commenting on this year’s results, the Group Managing Director at Tees, Ashton Hunt, said: “These incredible results, which give much-deserved recognition to both talented individuals and departments across the firm, show that Tees is committed to continually striving for improvement. Our merger with Wortley Byers has added real strength and expertise to our team, with the Commercial Property department’s new Tier 1 status standing as testament to the success of our union.”
