Highly experienced Corporate & Commercial Partner, Lucy Folley, joined us in 2019 following the merger with Brentwood-based firm Wortley Byers, where she was Managing Partner. With well over 20 years’ experience and a plethora of achievements to her name, we’re delighted to have her at Tees!
Lucy qualified as a solicitor in 1994, after starting her early career in London and moved to Wortley Byers in 1997. After making Partner in just two years, she was appointed Head of the Corporate & Commercial department in 2009 and became Managing Partner in 2014. Now occupying a position on the board at Tees, her career trajectory has been impressive by anyone’s standards – and even more so when considering that Lucy has balanced her career with raising a family.
Lucy has wide experience in all aspects of corporate and commercial law, with particular specialism in mergers and acquisitions across a broad variety of industries, joint ventures and collaborations, and all aspects of running a business. She has advised on many high-profile cases, including £multi-million sales and large outsourcing projects.
In addition to her busy caseload, Lucy also lends her considerable legal expertise to a range of pursuits outside the office. She is a Legal Ambassador for the Institute of Directors and works to support the organisation in growing its profile and reputation throughout Essex. “As a business leader myself, being part of the IoD provides excellent professional development opportunities and the chance to meet and network with Essex’s rising business stars,” says Lucy. “In my capacity as Legal Ambassador, I’m lucky to have the opportunity to give something back to this thriving community, offering legal advice and support to those wishing to develop robust legal structures to support their business development.” Lucy has also turned public speaker on several occasions, appearing at the Brentwood Business Showcase to give talks on a range of corporate and commercial matters.
Outside of work, Lucy’s talented children keep her very busy. Her oldest son, Joseph, is a budding actor and playwright who is studying Philosophy at Cambridge University, while her 17-year-old daughter, Jess, is a rising pop star who won The Voice Kids in 2017 and The X Factor: The Band last year and is embarking on a career with her band Real Like You.
